New Name for Brossard Designs

September 8th, 2005  |  Posted in news

Brossard Designs is growing! During the upcoming months, we will be making several changes to better serve our clients.

The first change is that Brossard Designs is changing its name to:

Concise Computing

The name, Concise Computing, aptly describes what we do and reflects our goal to provide effective and efficient technology assistance to meet your organizations computing needs. Concise Computing offers a full range of technology and computing services, so you can focus on your business rather than on your computers or website.

Along with our new name, we have a new website:

www.concisecomputing.com

The new website details all of our services and provides information to help you use your systems and website most effectively.

Since we are growing, Concise Computing will be able to take on new clients. We are so grateful to our existing clients for their client referrals — if you know of any organization, small business or individual who could benefit from our services, please pass along our phone number, new email address or new website address:

phone: 413-364-2463
email: info@concisecomputing.com
web: www.concisecomputing.com

Enjoy exploring our new website to see all we can do you and find solutions to common computing problems.

Thank You!

Protect Your Computer from Viruses

August 31st, 2005  |  Posted in windows tips

A good anti-virus program is still critical for keeping Windows computers running smoothly. Symantec (www.symantec.com) and CA (www.ca.com) both have good antivirus programs. And for home users, the free version of AVG (free.grisoft.com) is a good way to go.

Keep the anti-virus program up to date and it’s real-time scanner will provide a lot of protection. Also remember to run/schedule a full system scan every few weeks.

Get Rid of Spyware

August 31st, 2005  |  Posted in windows tips

Spyware causes as many, if not more, problems on computers as viruses do. Find it and get rid of it using a program like Ad-Aware (www.lavasoftusa.com). Avoid getting spyware in the first place by only installing tools and programs from trusted sources, and using a good popup blocker (built-in to Firefox (www.mozilla.org), or via a Google’s toolbar (toolbar.google.com).

System Restore

August 31st, 2005  |  Posted in windows tips

The System Restore tool in the System Tools folder of the Accessories group is a great tool for solving odd problems. With it you can restore your system files to a time before problems appeared. But any files you created will stay just as they are… though it is always safer to have a backup!

Keep Windows Updated Automatically

August 31st, 2005  |  Posted in windows tips

Setting Automatic Updates (in the Control Panel of Windows 2000 and XP) to Automatic is best for most people. You will still get the occasional update notification down by the clock (usually for updates that have a license agreement), but most updates will install automatically without you having to do anything.

Unplug It!

When you run into a weird problem with a computer, unplugging it for a minute (shutting down normally first, of course) will often solve it.
